In a digital signal processing system, a method for selecting a transform function to apply to an input signal based on characteristics of the signal, and for self-adjusting criteria which are used in selecting a transform function to apply to a subsequent signal. Characteristics are obtained from the signal. The characteristics are compared to adjustable criteria which are used in selecting a transform function. Differing criteria are maintained for the different selectable transform functions. A record is maintained of transform functions selected and the particular characteristics that caused the selection. Based on the ability of a transform function to minimally define the coded signal, an inverse transform function is selected to decode the signal. The criteria used in selecting a transform function to apply to a subsequent signal are adjusted based on a quality measure of the decoded signal and the record of selected transform functions.

Abstract:
Systems and methods for editing and selectively encoding video. In general, in one implementation, the method includes generating video segments from portions of one or more video sources, at least one video source being encoded to have interframe dependencies; generating a video sequence from the video segments; scanning the generated video sequence to identify invalid interframe dependencies; and selectively reencoding portions of the generated video sequence to generate an output video sequence having valid interframe dependencies. The method may further comprise generating the output video sequence without reencoding valid portions of the video sequence. Valid portions of the video sequence may comprise portions lacking invalid interframe dependencies or buffer violations.

Abstract:
Data, such as video data, is encoded by identifying a data segment to be encoded. The data segment includes multiple frames. A bit-rate profile for encoding the data segment is generated. The bit-rate profile defines a number of bits associated with each frame in the data segment. Frames are encoded using the bit-rate profile. The bit-rate profile is updated periodically to incorporate past encoding statistics and compensate for any encoding bits deviations from the initial profile.

Abstract:
Compositions and methods comprising polynucleotides and polypeptides having 4-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase (HPPD) activity and having insensitivity to an HPPD inhibitor are provided. Further provided are nucleic acid constructs, plants, plant cells, explants, seeds and grain having the HPPD sequences. Various methods of employing the HPPD sequences are provided. Such methods include, for example, methods for producing an HPPD inhibitor tolerant plant, plant cell, explant or seed and methods of controlling weeds in a field containing a crop employing the plants and/or seeds disclosed herein. Methods are also provided to identify additional HPPD variants. Further provided are various methods and compositions that allow the various HPPD polypeptides and variant and fragments thereof to be expressed in a chloroplast or transported to a chloroplast.
