Inventors:
Chung-An Lin - Cerritos CA, US
Gene S. Lee - Los Angeles CA, US
Erick S. Miller - Los Angeles CA, US
Assignee:
Disney Enterprises, Inc. - Burbank CA
International Classification:
G06T 13/00
US Classification:
345420, 345473, 345419
Abstract:
A method for use in deformation of an object. The method includes providing a high-resolution model of the object and providing a control cage for the model that includes control faces each defined by control vertices. The method includes generating a thin-layer segment for each of the control faces including extruding a set of the control vertices a distance toward the model. The method includes binding the control cage to the high resolution model based on the thin-layer segments. Each of the thin-layer segments includes a segmented mesh corresponding to a set of the control faces surrounding each face as it is used as seed for a segment. The method includes determining heat diffusion weights for the segments and using the weights along with mean value coordinates to statically bind the cage to the model and to determine influences of segments during deformation of the model with the cage.

Inventors:
Clay Kaytis - Burbank CA, US
John Edgar Park - Burbank CA, US
Gene Lee - Burbank CA, US
Philippe Brochu - Burbank CA, US
Hidetaka Yosumi - Burbank CA, US
Assignee:
Disney Enterprises, Inc. - Burbank CA
International Classification:
G06T 15/00
US Classification:
345419
Abstract:
A method of manipulating at least a portion of a character model into a pose involving a library data having a plurality of deformations, where each deformation is associated with index values of one or more distance measurement nodes. One or more distance measurement nodes are defined for the portion of the character model, wherein each distance measurement node comprises a number of points on a surface defined by the geometry of the character model, wherein the points are separated by a distance value. A particular pose is selected for the character model portion to establish an initial model by selecting values for the pose controls. For the particular pose, a value of the distance measurement nodes is determined. At least one deformation is selected from the library data based in the value of the distance measurement nodes and applied to the initial model to generate a deformed model.

Test Vector Generation System

View page
US Patent:
50291718, Jul 2, 1991
Filed:
May 25, 1989
Appl. No.:
7/356493
Inventors:
Gene W. Lee - Huntington Beach CA
George D. Underwood - Inglewood CA
Assignee:
Hughes Aircraft Company - Los Angeles CA
International Classification:
G01R 3128
US Classification:
371 27
Abstract:
A test pattern data generator 16 may be made to create and generate all of the unique test vectors associated with it. These test vectors may have an arbitrarily selected programmable length 26(a-d) and may be generated in an arbitrarily selected programmable quantity 28(a-d). Furthermore, a unique test vector may be generated in a number of clock periods approximately equal to the number of shift registers (156, 158) contained in a scan or application interface unit 20. All these features are accomplished by initially placing a seed initialization value in the test pattern generator 16 and having the test pattern data generator cycle through a number of states, the second state of the test pattern generation being inputted to a seed register 12. The contents of the seed register 12 are used as the seed initialization value for the second test vector to be generated by the generator 16. This process is continued until all of the unique test vectors have been created.

Multi-Granular Rigs For Distributed Node-Based Interactive Workflows

View page
US Patent:
20180096509, Apr 5, 2018
Filed:
Sep 30, 2016
Appl. No.:
15/282264
Inventors:
- Burbank CA, US
GENE LEE - La Canada CA, US
CHRISTIAN EISENACHER - Burbank, CA
CHUNG-AN LIN - Cerritos CA, US
GREGORY SMITH - Burbank CA, US
Assignee:
Disney Enterprises, Inc. - Burbank CA
International Classification:
G06T 13/20
G06T 11/20
G06T 17/20
G06T 1/60
Abstract:
Systems and methods are described for leveraging distributed computation systems to split animation application processing of node graphs into two components: 1) a low complexity, primary node graph, that is evaluated by the application of the local device; and 2) one or more, higher complexity, companion node graphs that connect to the primary node graph, and are evaluated by a distributed computation system. As the local device evaluates the original, low complexity node graph, an artist is provided with fast, direct manipulation of an animated object. At the same time, the distributed computation system evaluates the higher complexity, companion node graphs, thereby providing a user of the local application with higher fidelity versions of the primary node graph as they are computed.
