Abstract:
A method for obtaining a distribution of a stiffness property in tissue includes applying a plurality of loadings to the tissue, obtaining a plurality of two-dimensional (2-D) imaging projections of the tissue from different directions, measuring a force resulting from one of the plurality of loadings, measuring from at least one of the plurality of 2-D imaging projections a displacement of the tissue in response to the force, obtaining an initial set of input parameters for an estimated stiffness property of the tissue, and solving iteratively for the stiffness property using a computer.

Abstract:
A method is provided for attaching electronic components (12) onto a substrate (10) which allows quick, easy and inexpensive subsequent removal and re-attaching of the electronic component (12) to obtain an undamaged printed wiring board package. The method for attaching the electronic component (12) onto the substrate (10) includes bonding a component interlayer (18) onto the electronic component (12) with a component bonding layer (16), and forming an adhesive bond (14) between the component interlayer (18) and the substrate (10). If the removal of the electronic component (12) is needed, the electronic component (12) is removed from the substrate (10) by heating the component interlayer (18), thus melting the component bonding layer (16). If the re-attachment of the electronic component (12) is needed, the method for attaching the electronic component (12) onto the substrate (10) is repeated, using a new component interlayer (18). If necessary, the substrate (10) is bonded onto a substrate interlayer (19) with a substrate bonding layer (21), and the adhesive bond (14) is formed between the component interlayer (18) and the substrate interlayer (19).

Systems and methods for integrating a three-dimensional X-ray computed tomography system with an independent sound wave system to determine mechanical properties of tissue using signals from the sound wave system. Methods are disclosed that generate a numerical simulation and take the transmitted wave signals as the optimization objective to estimate modulus distribution of the tissue. Further, the mechanical properties of the tissue are reconstructed based on an inverse algorithm.

Abstract:
An optical amplifier is provided in which radiation levels experienced by an optical fiber are minimized. A sealed enclosure houses an optical fiber. An input optical signal enters on end of the fiber and an amplified output optical signal exits the other end of the optical fiber. Small particles embedded with a gas fill the interior of the enclosure. An optical pump supplies an amplification laser beam coupled to one of the ends of the optical fiber. Due to energy supplied by the amplification laser beam, the input optical signal is amplified upon exiting the optical fiber. At least a portion of the gas embedded in the small particles is released inside the enclosure when the small particles are subjected to heat to provide a gaseous interior in the enclosure that minimizes radiation levels experienced by the optical fiber due to external radiation.
