Abstract:
A computer-implemented method of providing insurance discounts to risk averse home owners having standby generators. The method may include, with customer permission or affirmative consent, (1) receiving, at an insurance provider remote server, data that is indicative of whether a standby generator is associated with a home; (2) receiving, at the insurance provider remote server, data indicative of an amount of the home to which the standby generator is configured to supply power; and (3) determining data associated with the terms of the residential insurance coverage for the home based upon the data indicative of whether the standby generator is associated with the home and/or the data indicative of the amount of the home to which the standby generator is configured to supply power. The standby generator data may be generated or collected by a smart home controller, and transmitted to the insurance provider via wireless communication, for instance.

Abstract:
A computer-implemented method of providing insurance coverage to risk averse home owners having standby generators. The method may include: (1) providing, by an insurance provider remote server, an ability of a vendor that provides a standby generator for a home to make available to the insurance provider data associated with a customer and/or the standby generator; (2) receiving, at the insurance provider remote server from the vendor, with customer permission or affirmative consent, the data associated with the customer and/or the standby generator; and (3) determining, by the insurance provider remote server based upon the data associated with the customer and/or the standby generator, data associated with the insurance coverage and/or data associated with terms of the insurance coverage. The data associated with the customer and/or the standby generator may be received by the insurance provider via wireless communication over one or more radio links or communication channels, for instance.

A computer-implemented method for identifying a property usage type based upon sensor data includes, with customer permission or affirmative consent, receiving data generated by various sensors; generating a report that includes a listing of events recorded by each sensor; analyzing data from the report to determine a property usage type score; receiving data regarding types and levels of insurance coverage associated with the property usage type score; receiving data derived from a homeowner's insurance policy; comparing the types and levels of insurance coverage associated with the property usage type score with the types and levels of insurance coverage from the homeowner's current insurance policy; and transmitting a message to the homeowner to update their insurance policy if there are differences between (i) the insurance coverage that the homeowner has, and (ii) the insurance coverage the homeowner should have based upon the property usage type score.
