Wear Resisting Sleeve System For Aircraft Landing Arresting Cables

View page
US Patent:
6981673, Jan 3, 2006
Filed:
Nov 5, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/985076
Inventors:
Dale A. Sowell - Alexandria VA, US
Anh Le - Montgomery Village MD, US
Eugene C. Fischer - Stevensville MD, US
Assignee:
The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Navy - Washington DC
International Classification:
B64C 25/68
US Classification:
244110C
Abstract:
The aircraft landing arrest cable has wear resisting sleeves positioned thereon in spaced relation to each other to thereby hold the cable out of contact with a non-skid landing surface in a lowered position of the cable. Stresses imposed on the cable when engaged by a tail hook suspended from aircraft during landing, are absorbed by the wear resisting sleeves which are held clamped in positions on the cables by fluid adhesive previously injected into the sleeves. The wear resisting sleeves are respectively formed from pivotally connected sleeve sections made of an impact shatter-proof and durable material such as polyurethane with abutting edges held in contact with each other under a clamped condition of the sleeves on the cable, established by the injected adhesive.

The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Navy - Washington DC
International Classification:
C04B 35584
US Classification:
501 97
Abstract:
A ceramic electromagnetic window made of Si. sub. 3 N. sub. 4 particles which are bonded together by a metal phosphate binder that is an AlPO. sub. 4 binder, a ZrP. sub. 2 O. sub. 7 binder, or mixtures thereof, wherein the Si. sub. 3 N. sub. 4 particles comprise from 55 to 85 volume percent of the ceramic material of the electromagnetic window with the metal phosphate binder comprising the remainder. By substituting Si. sub. 3 N. sub. 4 whiskers for some of the Si. sub. 3 N. sub. 4 particles a discontinuous fiber composite ceramic electromagnetic window is produced. The electromagnetic window may be a simple shape such as a flat or slightly curved sheet or a more complex shape such as a conical or spherical radome.
