Filed:
Jan 12, 1981
Appl. No.:
6/224360
Inventors:
Douglas A. Fecher - Three Oaks MI
Assignee:
The Bendix Corporation - Southfield MI
International Classification:
F15B 1310
US Classification:

One Piece Rear Seal For Servomotor

View page
US Patent:
48980811, Feb 6, 1990
Filed:
Aug 31, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/238950
Inventors:
Douglas A. Fecher - Granger IN
Assignee:
Allied-Signal Inc. - Morristown NJ
International Classification:
F16J 1518
US Classification:
92165R
Abstract:
A one piece seal (42) having a resilient body (100) with a peripheral surface (102) on which first and second ribs (104 and 106) engage a housing (19) to establish static seals to prevent environmental air from entering a control chamber (22) and an inner surface (114) with first and second dynamic seals (120 and 128) located adjacent first and second bearing lands (116 and 118). The first and second dynamic seals (120 and 128) which surround a movable projection (38) flex to allow the projection (38) relatively radial movement while the bearing lands (116 and 118) retain the projection (38) in axial alignment during lateral movement of the wall (24).

Enhanced Pneumatic Brake System

View page
US Patent:
50760564, Dec 31, 1991
Filed:
Aug 1, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/561136
Inventors:
David J. Schmidt - Troy MI
Douglas A. Fecher - Granger IN
Assignee:
Allied Signal Inc. - Morristown NJ
International Classification:
F16D 3100
US Classification:
60329
Abstract:
In a brake system (10) having a fluid pressure servomotor (12) with a housing having an operational chamber (30) connected to an intake manifold (102) of a vehicle and a control chamber (32) connected to an accumulator (50). A wall (28) which separates the operational chamber (30) from the control chamber (32) carries a valve (38) connected to receive an input from an operator by way of pedal (20). In the rest position, the valve (38) allows the vacuum created at the intake manifold (102) to evacuate air from the operational chamber (30) and control chamber (32). When an operator desires to effect a brake application, an input force applied to the valve (38) by way of pedal (20) allows air from the accumulator (50) to be communicated to the control chamber (32) and create a pressure differential across the wall (28). The pressure differential moves the wall (28) to produce an output force to pressurize fluid in a master cylinder (14) which is communicated to the individual wheel brakes (16, 18) to complete a brake application. The air supplied to the control chamber (32) from the accumulator (50) has been heated to a predetermined temperature to increase the pressure therein above atmospheric pressure enhance the development of the pressure differential.

Plunger For A Control Valve Of A Servomotor

View page
US Patent:
49709399, Nov 20, 1990
Filed:
Aug 31, 1989
Appl. No.:
7/401325
Inventors:
Douglas A. Fecher - Granger IN
David C. Yoder - South Bend IN
Assignee:
Allied-Signal Inc. - Morristown NJ
International Classification:
F15B 910
US Classification:
913691
Abstract:
A plunger (52) having a cylindrical body with a smooth surface (61) thereon which joins an semi-spherical atmospheric seat (62) with a conical surface (60) to define with a section (31) of bore (30) a flow path through which air is communicated from the environment to a rear chamber (20) without the creation of noise. The smooth surface (61) is made of a porous material (51) that absorbs sounds without substantially effecting the flow of air.

Modifier For Vacuum Booster Reaction Force

View page
US Patent:
51614510, Nov 10, 1992
Filed:
Nov 27, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/799522
Inventors:
Douglas A. Fecher - Granger IN
Assignee:
Allied-Signal Inc. - Morristown NJ
International Classification:
F15B 910
US Classification:
913694
Abstract:
A spring and lever arrangement for imparting a spring force to a plunger of a control valve in a brake booster. The spring force is combined with an input force applied to the plunger during a brake application. A reaction force created by the resistance to movement of a pressurizing member by a output force developed in response to the input force overcomes the spring force and input force to control the development of an operational pressure differential such that the resultant output force for effecting a brake application varies as a nonlinear function.

Adjustable Return Spring For A Push Rod

View page
US Patent:
49170007, Apr 17, 1990
Filed:
Mar 14, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/168037
Inventors:
Douglas A. Fecher - Granger IN
Assignee:
Allied-Signal Inc. - Morristown NJ
International Classification:
F15B 912
US Classification:
913692
Abstract:
A vacuum brake booster (12) having an input force applied to a brake pedal (20) for moving a plunger (28) to operate a control valve (24). A sleeve (98) concentric to the push rod (22) is located between the brake pedal (20) and plunger (28). A spring (94) acts on the sleeve (98) to move the plunger (28) against a stop (76) in the absence of an input force. A ramp (104) on sleeve (98) cooperates with projection (102) on said push rod (22) to define a linear dimension for the spring (94). Rotation of the sleeve (98) changes the load of the spring (94) and correspondingly the force required to initiate the operation of the control valve (24) through movement of the plunger (28).

Adjustable Plunger For Control Valve

View page
US Patent:
52339050, Aug 10, 1993
Filed:
May 27, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/889553
Inventors:
Douglas A. Fecher - Granger IN
Assignee:
Allied-Signal Inc. - Morristown NJ
International Classification:
F15B 910
US Classification:
91369002
Abstract:
A plunger for a control valve having a head with a tab located in a slot in a hub member and a cylindrical body with a threaded projection connected to the head. Rotation of the cylindrical body moves the head in the slot to establish the space relationship between a reaction disc and a face on the head. The space relationship sets the distance that a reaction disc must be extruded by a reaction force before opposing an input force. The delay in opposing an input force assures that a predetermined force is developed and immediately supplied to a master cylinder.

Modifier For Vacuum Booster Reaction Force

US Patent:
52077705, May 4, 1993
Filed:
Jan 29, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/827668
Inventors:
Douglas A. Fecher - Granger IN
Assignee:
Allied-Signal Inc. - Morristown NJ
International Classification:
F15B 910
US Classification:
913694
Abstract:
A spring and lever arrangement for imparting a spring force to a plunger of a control valve in a brake booster by operating a solenoid member during a brake application. Movement of the plunger by an operator input force allows a pressure differential to develop across a moveable wall and produce an original output force which is supplied to a pressurizing member. Resistance to movement of the pressurizing member creates a reaction force. The reaction force balances the spring force and operator input force to terminate the development of the pressure differential while correspondingly modifying the output force supplied to the pressurizing member. A switch allows an operator terminate the operation of the solenoid to effectively obviate the spring force and allow the original output force to be produced by the operator input force.
