System And Device Architecture For Single-Chip Multi-Core Processor Having On-Board Display Aggregator And I/O Device Selector Control

View page
US Patent:
20080215852, Sep 4, 2008
Filed:
Aug 30, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/848109
Inventors:
Kenneth Largman - San Francisco CA, US
Anthony B. More - Sebastopol CA, US
Jeffrey Blair - San Francisco CA, US
Arthur Abraham - Oakland CA, US
International Classification:
G06F 15/76
G06F 9/02
US Classification:
712 28, 712 32, 712E09002
Abstract:
System, device, device architecture, and method for operating a multi-core processor providing application level file isolation and providing display frame buffer aggregator or selector to provide a user with the experience of multiple simultaneous application execution within a single processor while actually providing separate concurrent but isolated processing sessions.

Method And Apparatus For Rendering Graphical Images Using Parallel Processing

View page
US Patent:
55465307, Aug 13, 1996
Filed:
Oct 25, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/328505
Inventors:
Jean-Jacques G. Grimaud - Portola Valley CA
Jaron Z. Lanier - Palo Alto CA
Arthur Abraham - Oakland CA
Young Harvill - San Mateo CA
Assignee:
VPL Research, Inc. - Redwood City CA
International Classification:
G06F 1516
US Classification:
395163
Abstract:
A distributed animation comprising a plurality of processors wherein each processor is responsible for rendering only a portion of the entire image. After the plurality of processors compute their respective images, the image data is communicated to a buffer. The buffer also receives image data from other sources. The buffer combines the image data from all sources into a single image frame which is then stored in a frame buffer. The buffer comprises a plurality of buffer elements, each buffer element being associated with a single graphics element (processor or video source). Each buffer element includes an input terminal for receiving pixel data from its corresponding graphics element, an output terminal for outputting pixel data, and a second input terminal for receiving pixel data from the output terminal of a previous buffer element. The pixel data typically includes a Z value which provides the depth location in the image of the object represented by that pixel. The Z value of the pixel received on the first input terminal is compared to the Z value of the pixel received on the second input terminal, and the multiplexer outputs the pixel value that is "closer" in the image.

Method And Apparatus For Creating Virtual Worlds

View page
US Patent:
56849435, Nov 4, 1997
Filed:
Mar 30, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/413940
Inventors:
Arthur Abraham - Oakland CA
John Owen Bumgarner - Morgan Hill CA
Assignee:
VPL Research, Inc. - Redwood City CA
International Classification:
G06T 1570
US Classification:
395173
Abstract:
A computer receives animated images together with a real world image. The computer then superimposes the animated images onto the real world image. The result is a combined animated/real image which forms the virtual world. The combined image is capable of moving as the user's head moves. Thus, complicated virtual worlds may be created without the programming complexity which would result if the entire image were animated.

Video Signal Receiver For Computer Graphics System

View page
US Patent:
47774860, Oct 11, 1988
Filed:
May 9, 1986
Appl. No.:
6/861695
Inventors:
Arthur Abraham - Oakland CA
George A. Ellis - San Francisco CA
Assignee:
A-Squared Systems - Oakland CA
International Classification:
G09G 102
US Classification:
340799
Abstract:
A video image processing system and method for encoding and storing a video image in a bit map array. The system receives a raster scan video signal which it converts into an analog luminosity signal. Then, during each of a preselected repeating sequence of raster scan cycle periods, it encodes a corresponding preselected portion of the information in the analog luminosity signal as a binary value and stores the value in a bit map memory array. As a result, the video image is encoded and stored over a plurality of raster scan cycle periods.
